Terms of use
Last updated: 10 October 2026
The short version
- You must be 18 or older, and be honest about who you are.
- Be respectful. Harassment, scams and fake profiles get you removed.
- Meeting people carries real risk. Use the safety features and meet in public.
- Race entries must be transferred through the organiser's official process. We don't handle payments between runners.
- Plus and race passes are bought through Apple or Google, under their refund rules.
1. Agreeing to these terms
By using RunStride (the app and runstride.co.za) you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use RunStride.
2. Who can use RunStride
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must not have been convicted of a violent or sexual offence, and must not have been removed from RunStride before.
- You may have only one account, and it must be about you. Before you can match, you'll need to verify your identity.
3. Your account
Keep your phone and Google account secure; you're responsible for what happens on your account. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete account).
4. How to behave
You agree not to:
- harass, threaten, bully, or send unwanted sexual content to anyone;
- pretend to be someone else, use someone else's photos, or lie about your age;
- scam people, ask for money, or advertise or sell anything (other than race entries on the swap board, at no more than you paid);
- share anyone's private information, including other users' locations;
- post anything illegal, hateful, violent or sexually explicit;
- use bots, scrape the app, or try to get around its limits or security.
We review reports and may warn, suspend or remove anyone who breaks these rules, and remove what they posted. Where someone may be in danger, we may contact the authorities.
5. Your safety
RunStride checks identities, but we don't do criminal background checks and can't guarantee how anyone will behave. When you meet someone:
- meet and run in busy, public places, in daylight where you can;
- tell someone you trust, and use live run sharing and check-ins;
- if you're in danger, call 10111 or 112 first. The panic button alerts your trusted contacts; it doesn't contact emergency services.
Running carries its own risks. Run within your fitness and get medical advice if you need it.
6. Races and entry swaps
Race information comes from organisers, public listings and users, and may be wrong or change. Always check with the organiser.
The swap board helps you find someone to swap a race entry with. Every transfer must be done through the organiser's official process, so the right person's name and medical details are on the bib. RunStride isn't part of any sale: we don't handle payments, and we aren't responsible for swaps between runners. Never pay until the organiser confirms the transfer, and report anyone who pressures you.
7. Your content
You own what you post (photos, bio, messages). You give RunStride permission to store and show it in the app to the people it's meant for, for as long as it's on RunStride. Only post photos you have the right to use.
8. RunStride Plus and race passes
- Plus is a subscription that renews automatically until you cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings. It keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for.
- A race pass is a one-off purchase for one race and lasts until the day after it.
- Purchases are made through Apple or Google, and refunds follow their rules. This doesn't take away any rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act.
- Prices are shown in the app before you buy. We'll tell you before a subscription price changes.
- ID verification, reporting, blocking and run-day safety features are always free.
9. Our responsibility
We work hard to keep RunStride running and safe, but it's provided as it is, and may sometimes be unavailable. To the extent the law allows, RunStride isn't liable for how other users behave, for swaps between runners, or for indirect losses. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under South African law that can't be limited.
10. Changes and ending
We may update these terms; if a change matters, we'll tell you in the app before it applies. We may end or suspend accounts that break these terms. You can stop using RunStride and delete your account at any time.
11. Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. Questions? Email hello@runstride.co.za.
